Avon Valley Summer League 2006

Round 6: 10th Semptember - Passies Match Lake

The final round of the Avon Valley Summer was fished at Passies match lake. The draw was shrouded in an early morning mist which soon gave way to a gloriously sunny day and the lakes Carp and Silver fish fed but the lakes F1's were in hiding which is probabley why the weights were lower than extected.

The winner from peg 51 was John Cowle with 59-9-0 of Carp  to 8lb taken on Paste fished on the inside next to a wed bed.  Second was Paul Bentley fishing for  Allans Marine Red with 43-2-0 of Carp, third was Bowsaws angler Mick Doran with a 41-14-0 net of Carp.

At the start of the day the top three teams were within 6 points of each other, and the league still looked wide open, but another solid performance by league leaders Hansfords  saw them stay in top spot and Milo Bordon had to be content with runners up.

Round 5: 20th August - Broadlands Main Lake

Broadlands main lake was in fine form for the 5th round of the Avon Valley Summer League. After last years match many thought the glory days of Roach fishing at Broadlands were over but how wrong  we were, the  Roach are back. On the day there were  two 20lb bags of Roach, and the average of was over 10lb, but the conditions were perfect for Bream (overcast and a  ripple on the water) and the top two weights were Bream bags.

The winner was John Basset (SARFIX Thames) from end peg 113 with 27-10-0 of feeder caught Bream which included a single 4lb Carp taken on the last cast of the match.  Dave Pool (Hansfords MG) was second from peg 51 with a 26-1-0 net which included a 9lb Carp. Chris Gillott (Allans Marine Black) was 3rd from peg 110 with 23-7-0 of Roach fishing up in the water on waggler and maggot. Round 4: 6th August - Dryad

The sun was shining the fish were feeding and Dryad was looking in top condition for the 4th round of rthe Avon Valley Summer League. A light easterly breeze meant the 60's and 70's  would be the favoured  pegs today and they didn't disappoint with 5 of the top 6 weights coming from this end section. Although the weights were lower than expected it wasn't due to lack of feeding fish, the problem was how do you get a swim full of feeding Carp to make a mistake and take your bait!

The winner Ian Chatfield pegged on 74 caught 104-10-0 of Carp from 3 to 8 lbs on the pole fished down the margins on pellet and corn. Second was Luke Sheriff  pegged on 67 and caught 103-10-0 of Carp ledgering banded pellet. Third was Ian Dixon on peg 14 with 89-2-0 of Carp caught up in the water on the Waggler.

The team event was close and only two points separated the top four teams. Tied for top spot were Guildford AC and Tackle Emporium with 42 points. Third were Hansford MAP with 41 points and Milo Bordon were 4th with 40 points.

Round 3: 23rd July - Witherington Farm

After weeks of hot sunny weather veryone was expecting a good days sport, but  heavy rain and a thunderstorm the day before dampened procedings.  For most it was a frustrating day because the fish were clearly visable all around the lake and eating everything thown in by the anglers except what was on the hook.

The Winner Ken Justice pegged on 49 caught Carp to 8 lbs long pole pellet and Paste in the middle channel. Second was John Holt  pegged on 85, on the inner snake, caught Carp on paste and pellet along the far bank on the Long pole. Round 2: 9th July - Passies Match Lake

The second round of the Avon Valley summer league was fished on the snake lake at Passies. The weekend before in the hot weather Passies had fished well but this weekend the temperature had dropped and a strong Easterly wind made presentation difficult and kept weights down. Therefore it wasn't surprising to find most of the top weights came from sheltered pegs.

Winner from peg 1  Doug Wright  caught 81-08-0 of Carp to 8 lbs  short pole pellet and meat in the channel. Second Barrie Giles from peg 35 caught 57-06-0 of F1’s on maggot and pellet along the far bank on the lead and feeder.  Third was Marcus Page with 48-10-0.
Milo Bordon took full advantage of a good draw and went top of the league, 2nd were Allans Marine Shop, and 3rd were Guidford Angling Center. The previous league leaders Allans Marine Black had a nightmare day and finished up 6th.

Ten teams lined the banks of Passies lakes for the first round of the Avon Valley Summer League. In the run up to the match Passies had been fishing well but a change in the weather took the edge off the fishes appetites and the weights were lower than expected.  The first 3 weights all came from the down wind end of the lake where a few better stamp Carp were  taken. Winner on the day was J. Coombes on peg 66 with 61-4-0 of  F1's and Carp to 8lb, taken on pole fished meat an pellet. Runner  up was Eric Best with 8 Carp on Meat from peg 1. 3rd was Ray Heagarty with 48-0-0  of Carp taken on Corn and Worm on the feeder.
