Round 1: Stroud
Farm Fisheries 2nd Jan 2005
The cold weather in the run up to the first round of Nobby Halls Spring
Series at Stroud Farm Fisheries slowed sport but everyone still caught.
On the day Bonus carp made up the frame and these came from the Feature
pegs. Those unlucky enough not to draw a feature still had plenty of
sport and could catch Roach all day by scaling down. The top places
were all taken on pole with either maggot or Corn on the hook. The
eventual winner was Darby Allen, who's 18-10-0 catch included an 11lb
Carp, runner up was Colin Marshall with 18-1-0.
Perhaps the unluckiest angler on the Day was Steve Buxey who watched
his chance of winning swim away when he skillfully missed his keep net
with a 7lb Carp.

A section 1st Mick Doran 16-4-0, 2nd Steve Buxey 15-10-0.

Round 2: Stroud
Farm Fisheries 16th Jan 2005
The form book was turned upside down in the second round of the Nobby
Hall spring series at Stroud Farm. At the draw everyone wanted to draw
the feature pegs behind the Islands, but on the day they didn't produce
and the deeper pegs in open water were the most consistent. The winner
Gerry Illingworth, using 11m pole and maggot, had a string of Skimmers
plus two small Carp for 17-10-0. Second was Paul Brindley (Fishy Paul)
whose net included a 7lb ghost Carp, plus Skimmers and Roach for
13-10-0. Third was Deon Brindley pegged next to the run off , he had
signs of Carp all day but could only temp one for 11-7-0. Mick White
hooked an 8lb Carp on light Roach gear, and after 30 minutes battle an
exhausted angler finally netted an equally exhausted Carp which boosted
his weight to 10-10-0 for fourth. Fifth was Allans Marine Boss, and
leading light, Allan Watson with 7-7-0 of skimmers.

Round 3: Stroud
Farm Fisheries 30th Jan 2005
The cool weather leading up to
this match slowed sport and consequenly the colour dropped out of the
water. In these conditions the silver were hard to come by and
therefore Carp dominated the proceedings in the latest round of Nobby
Halls spring series. The winner with 6 Carp taken on pole fished maggot
was Tony Thorn with 20-6-0. Tony drew a corner peg and fished along
the bank between two bushes using a bunch of maggots on the hook.
Second placed angler was Loraine Talbot with two Carp for 18-12-0.
Third placed angler Mick White was pegged next to the winner and took 5
Carp for 17-4-0. Fouth was Allan's Marine boss Allan Watson with two
Carp for 16-11-0.
Round 4: Stroud
Farm Fisheries 20th Feb 2005
Stroud Farm
Pond at Petersfield has fished harder and harder as the temperatures
have dropped and Paul Brindley (Allan's Marine) only needed two fish to
win the latest round with a weight of 16lbs 2ozs. Brindley took a carp
of 5lbs early on maggot over pellet and then waited till the last cast
of the day to land a specimen of almost 12lbs on pole fished corn.
Runner up was Nobby Hall who took all his catch of 4 carp in the first
hour and then sat fishless for the remainder of the match. Results: 1st
Paul Brindley (Allan's Marine) 16-2-0, 2nd Nobby Hall (Allan's Marine)

Round 5: Stroud
Farm Fisheries 6th Mar 2005
This was the 5th round of the series and it turned into a real struggle
with only a
handful of the anglers managing to weigh in. Winner on the day was
"Fishy" Paul Brindley (Allan's Marine) with 13lbs 8ozs. Brindley drew
peg 4 and he fed chopped worm and pellet at 12 metres and landed 3 carp
and a small skimmer on worm and maggot. Alan Simmons (Hants Fire
& Rescue MT) had a 10lbs 6oz carp on his first cast of the
match on hair rigged sweetcorn on the feeder and this was enough to
secure the runner up spot. He did have another bite but unfortunately
this fish straightened his hook otherwise he could have won. At the
moment there is a tie for first place in the league between 3 anglers,
Paul Brindley, Alan Simmons and Mick Hartley with 32 points with 2
matches remaining it looks like it will go to the wire. Results: 1st
Paul Brindley (Allan's Marine) 13-8-0, 2nd Alan Simmons (Hants Fire
& Rescue MT) 10-6-0, 3rd Dion Dukes (Allan's Marine) 7-0-0,
4th
Mick Hartley (Southmoors AC) 5-6-0.
