Ron Snook Memorial Match

Hayling Island 3rd September 2006

The weather was overcast and there was a strong north easterly for the 3rd annual Ron Snook memorial match at Hayling Island. This meant the anglers on the north bank had a stiff cross wind making it almost impossible to present a bait on the pole, whilst those on the south bank benefited from some shelter from the high bank and therefore had the best of the weather.  At the draw the favoured pegs were those on the south bank and Martin Kiy, Last years winner, drew the same peg on the south bank as last year and was hoping for a repeat of last years result. Joining Martin on the South bank was Chris Gillott, the winner of the 1st Ron Snook memorial so the scene was set, could either of them take the title for a second time or would a new name be engraved on the trophy?

The first two matches had been won with double figures of Roach on the waggler, but today the lakes Rudd also fed and most anglers had over 5lb of small Rudd and Roach.

Top Junior for the second year running was Arron Jenkins with 7-2-0. Arron won a Rod holder and a selection of goodies.

Top weight on the day was Chris Gillott from peg 34 with 20-2-0 of Rudd and Roach taken on 4m whip and maggot.  Runner up was Mark Long from peg 25 with 12-10-0. Mark fished Corn on the waggler over a bed of Hemp and had Roach to 10oz in his 12-10-0 net.  Third was Mervin Chadd from peg 8 with 11-8-0 which included a 5lb Tench, and fourth was Marus Commons from peg 35 with 273 fish for 9-2-0.
