Allan’s Marine Super League, Pagham
20/3/07
Usually a venue worth the drive from Portsmouth and Southampton but whether it was the Northerly bitter winds with sleet or just that the fish didn’t know that they were supposed to be there nobody knows but it was a slow match. Ian Hills from Havant only needed 2 fish to win this round against 25 other anglers he landed a dogfish of 1lb 8ozs along with a small whiting he recorded 1lb 13 ½ ozs and picked up the winners spoils and the heaviest fish pool. Luckily the league is fished to weight to measure rules with all the fish returned alive so we managed to get a result and in runner up spot was Andy Gunn with 2 fish for 6 ½ ozs and Gavin Martin in third spot with 4 ½ ozs. Leading the league with 13 points is Andy Gunn from Southampton with Mark Barnett from Portsmouth runner up with 20 points. With the conditions causing the fishing to be so patchy this could all change with the next match at Eastney on 17 th April. As usual all the matches are run as opens, give Allan’s Marine a call on 023 92671833 to book a peg. As usual all the league results can be viewed at www.allansmarine.co.uk.

Mark Samson Bass
Marc Samson from North End in Portsmouth can thank a Good Samaritan for this great brace of bass from the Tipner Shore after breaking his spade while digging his bait. Marc thought he’d dig some lug and rag from Tipner and fish the flooding tide but calamity struck when he broke the handle of his spade but luckily another angler was also digging and gave Marc a handful of worms which were put to good use with these silver torpedoes that tipped the scales at 5lbs 2ozs and 2lbs 13ozs.
Hambrook Fishery 4 th Fly Fishing Open
Fished as a friendly competition for a few mates turned into a full bloodied match with 22 anglers casting their flies for a brace of fish with the heaviest weight winning. Roy Collery from Birdham took a great brace of rainbows tipping the scales at 11lbs exactly and taking the winners trophy with “new boy” Terry Watson from Stamshaw, who has only been fluff chucking for a few months, runner up with 9 ½ lbs and 11 year old James Ellis from Gosport in third spot with 6 ½ lbs. Hambrook comprise of 2 lakes, one trout and the other for carp fishermen, give water manager Kevin a call on for dayticket details.
Eastney Beach Report
12/03/07
Hayling Island Angling instructer and local sea fishing reporter Adrian Farley and some freinds from the Total Sea Fishing Web Forum had a blinder of a day at Eastney and Southsea Beach, fishing for the Plaice that arrive at this time of year.
With good tides and calm Sea conditions the setting was perfect for a bumper day, top rod on the day went to local angler Lee Wilton from Leigh Park with a bag containing four fish the biggest weighing in at 3lb that came with another of 2lb on the same rig.

Lee Wilton
Next on the board was the knockup organiser Adrian Farley with a fine speciman spotty of 3lb-13oz that came at distance on a wishbone rig baited with ragworm and crab cocktail.

Adrian Farley
Not to be out done on the day it was Surrey angler Paul Rivers turn to land a personal best flattie of 3lb-7oz. All fish were weighed, photographed and then released alive, and it must be said that these conservation minded fishermen must be congratulated for the fact that they are fishing for the sport and not just for their own ego's.

Weston Shore 30/1/07
The sea angling at this time of the year on the South coast venues is always going to be scratching with the demise of the flounder and just 1 fish can make a big difference, infact in may lead to a win. Luckily there were a few fish to be caught along Weston Shore in Southampton in the 1st Super League match of 2007 and Steve Death from Southampton landed 5 fish for a weight of 3lbs ¾ ozs. Death caught flounders bass and pout and he also managed the heaviest fish, a flounder weighing 1lb 8ozs. The fish caught are measured, witnessed by the angler on the next peg, and then released and then a conversion chart is used to get a final weight. This allows all of the fish, apart from those kept for the table, to be let free to fight another day. Runner up was Dave Edwards with 3 fish for 2lbs 3ozs and Darren Crammer in third spot with 1lb 10ozs. The league has a points system now that is calculated on 1 point for the winner, 2 points for 2nd etc with those blanking getting 5 points added and 10 points for those league members not showing and the best 5 out of 6 matches to count. The next match is at Hayling Island, book in at Eastoke Corner, fishing from 8.00pm till 12.00 midnight and all the matches are fished as open’s as well as a league, give Allan’s Marine a call to book a peg on 023 92671833.
Results: 1st Steve Death 3-0-12, 2nd Dave Edwards 2-3-0, 3rd Darren Crammer 1-10-0, 4th Dave Ware 1-4-0, 5th Steve Carter 1-2-0, 6th Mike Delaney 1-0-0.
The weather may have been atrocious for boat anglers of late but those that have managed to get outside of the sheltered harbours have been rewarded with good cod, whiting and congers more than ready to feed. Lee Rossie from Copnor had a great day aboard Rob Hickin’s Sea Juicer in a lull in the weather landing this cracking 21lb cod in 50 foot of water by the Nab Tower. The fish had been lost a short while earlier as it still had a baited trace hanging from its mouth but Rossie made no mistake after the fish grabbed his penneled 4/0 squid baits.

MBK Winter League, St. Pat’s and Coloured Ponds, 44 pegs
11/02/07
After the lakes were frozen over on Thursday most anglers were expecting it to be rock hard fishing but some were sat on a shoal of carp and Steve Hale (Mannings B) landed an incredible 84lbs 14ozs of carp on the bomb rod and pole. Hale was drawn on a corner peg of Pond 2 and started on the bomb with corn on the hook but after loosing fish to a snaggy lilly bed he switched to the pole and took fish to 9lbs feeding pellet and fishing corn. Pete Lemmon (MBK Allsorts) was pegged opposite and after a hectic start sport slowed down but he still managed 46lbs 4ozs of carp. Just to show how tight the fish will shoal in this weather Pete Addington (Shreks) landed 43lbs 4ozs of carp from St. Patrick’s on the bomb and the runner up only managed 7lbs, the luck is at the draw.
Results: 1 st Steve Hale (Mannings) 84-14-0, 2 nd Pete Lemmon (Allsorts) 46-4-0, 3 rd Pete Addington (Shreks) 43-4-0, 4 th Nigel Cornwell (Allsorts) 31-3-0.

River Avon, Royalty Report
31/1/07
The good sport of last week continued up until it turned cold when the sport shuddered to a chilly halt. Until then the high, warm water had encouraged to barbel to continue to feed heartily. The largest barbel reported was taken by Ron Smith who landed a 15lb 3oz barbel from the Boat House Pool on luncheon meat. He described the event as an 'absolutely incredible fight & a magnificent fish'. Another angler who enjoyed great sport in the high water was local Richard Trim who had barbel weighing 7lb 6oz, 11lb 15oz and 12lb 6oz - the two doubles in successive casts into the slack above the Railway on rolling meat. Since the season started there have been over 250 doubles (fish weighing over 10lbs) reported so it has been a great season for those prepared to give the rivers a try and also those prepared to experiment. Daytickets and detailed reports from Nigel on 01202485169.
Carron Row Fishery, Titchfield
Portsmouth and District AS took over this 5 lake complex this year so any reports on catches are gratefully received so that the fishery officers can get an idea of the stocking levels. The have been plenty of rudd, roach, tench and carp caught so far and with a history of a 28 lb’er being landed the signs are good for the spring when all the fish will feed in earnest. Club members can fish any of the lakes on their membership ticket and daytickets are available from tackle shops. This water is another important string to the Portsmouth’s club bow and with full membership for a full year at under £100 for over 20 waters containing 40lb carp, 20lb pike, perch to 4lbs along with tench and bream to double figures it’s worth a call to the membership secretary, Dave Coombs, on 02392792461 for details.
